When We Free
When We Free is a short fiction film about a recently freed black community’s first camp meeting since emancipation. They search for balance between their African and New World spiritual traditions. They seek to honor what ancestors have brought across the Atlantic and those American Christian practices that sustained their ancestors while in bondage. When We Free is a part of the Queer Renaissance vision of creating the world anew by first creating new possibilities and safe space to explore our complex identities. Historical accounts and traditional music and practices will be the canvas that this film ritual is built on. The $5000 we are currently raising is for production costs.
This film will also serve as an opportunity for black feminist film school participants to get hands on training. learn more… – http://blackfeministfilmschool.wordpress.com/
